Located on the East coast of Sabah, Borneo, Sandakan is a useful stepping stone to explore the area,=; with tours running to the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary and the Selingan Island National Park.

Sandakan Airport (IATA code SDK) can be flown to from Kuala Lumpur via AirAsia, Kota Kinabalu in 40-45 minutes via Fly Asian Xpress (FAX) as well as Tawau, Kudat and Tomanggong

Selingan Island - Selingan Island is the largest of three "Turtle Island's" situated of the East coast of Sabah and the only one visitors may spend the night on.

Sandakan Memorial Park - Situated on the original site of the Japanese Prisoner of War camp is a memorial park to the men who lost their lives in the Borneo Death Marches during the Second World War. A small museum in the centre of the park provides a sombre look at the atrocities which occurred.
