Portorož (Italian: Portorose) [1] is a town in Slovenia.
UnderstandSlovenia's only mass-market resort on the Adriatic, the name means "Port of Roses", but it has been labeled Portobeton ("Port of Concrete") by Slovenian wags. While it's undeniable that the town entirely lacks the Venetian old towns of Piran, Izola or Koper and has rather too many giant concrete hotels and casinos, you could do far worse if looking for a stretch of beach, comparatively cheap eats and easy access to the rest of the coast. Get inPortorož has a small airport [2], but it is used only by charter flights and general aviation. Trieste (Trst) in Italy is about 90 minutes away, while the distance to the Slovenian capital Ljubljana is about 2-2.5 hours. All buses to or from Piran stop in Portorož along the way. Get aroundA free shuttle bus links Portorož to nearby Piran, a beautifully preserved gem of a Venetian city. SeeDoBuyEatDrinkSleepGet out
