Other destinationsFlinders Chase National Park contains all the well-known landmarks of K.I. there is an entry fee so it's a good idea to see all the sites there in one day if you can. Camping is also available in the park for around $15 a night. UnderstandIt can be quite cool on K.I. but during summer the weather is usually quite comfortable, though if you are going near the coast it is a good idea to have warm clothing. The main attractions on K.I. are the wildlife and landscape. TalkThe locals enjoy a non-vocal form of communication while driving accross the island. It is common place for the drivers of vehicles travelling in the opposite direction to lift a finger from the steering wheel and wave as they drive past. It's considered polite to do the same, the people are quite friendly. Get inThe only way to get to K.I. is either using the ferry which departs from Cape Jervis or via light aircraft. Travel time of the ferry is roughly 45mins Reservations: 13 13 01 or http://www.sealink.com.au Get aroundTaking your own car is a good option, or you can hire a car and take it over on the ferry (I don't believe car hire is available on the island). SeeItinerariesTake the ferry to Penneshaw, visit the tourist information building and from there you can determine exactly what you would like to see. If you would prefer to say in the one place for your trip then Kingscote is a good place to stay, it is the largest town on K.I. and allows reasonable access to the rest of the island. A day trip is enough to cross the length of the island, visit serveral areas and return to Kingscote. If you do enjoy nature then about 4 days should let you see everything the island has to offer. DoA lot of sight seeing is available on K.I. many natural areas and national parks well worth a visit. EatThere are several pubs and cafes throughout the larger towns of K.I. Stay safeDrive carefully obey all speed signs, wildlife does wander onto the road regulaerly exercise caution. Get outOnce again there are only two options to get back to mainland Australia from K.I. either the ferry which is capable of carrying cars, trucks and buses. Or by plane from the airport.
