Kandahar is a major city in the South of Afghanistan.
UnderstandThe Taliban, former rulers of Afghanistan, had their capital in Kandahar and the population of area is mainly Pushtu speakers, the ethnic group that dominated in Taliban. There are still some strongly conservative people in the city, although exposure to foreign media is countering this among most of the population. Get inBy planeFlights are available from the UN but are only open to UN staff and other approved organisations. By carA good road links Kandahar to Kabul. However, passing through Zabol is not safe. The road from Herat is also being improved, again it is very dangerous where it passes through Helmand and Farah. A road also runs South East via Spin Buldak to Quetta in Pakistan, also very dangerous. By busGet aroundSeeDoLearnWorkBuyEatBudgetMid-rangeSplurgeDrinkSleepBudgetMid-range
