Banten [1] is a province of Indonesia on the western tip of the island of Java.
It was once an independent sultanate. The head of government in Banten is a governor ("gubernur"). There are 5 regencies ("Kabupaten") in Banten: Serang, Lebak, Pandeglang, Cilegon, dan Tangerang.
The population of Banten is 9.1 millions people. The area is 8800 sq. km. The density is 1035 people/sq. km.

- Banten Kraton, the ruin of Banten Sultanate Palace. Burned and destroyed by Dutch in 1808.
